Maintaining Your Certifications
Lifeguard Training
Lifeguarding Review classes are designed to update your skills and to renew your current Red Cross Lifeguarding certification for another 2 years. Current certification (or expired by 30 days) in Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is required to participate in the review course.
Current certification is required to work as a Lifeguard.
Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
To be recertified as a Water Safety Instructor, instructors must:
1. Teach or co-teach at least one course of record during the certification period.
2. Successfully complete the Water Safety Instructor Recertification Assessment within 90 days prior to their expiration date.
Instructors who are about to expire should contact the American Red Cross thru the Instructors Corner (instructorcorner.org) Phone (1-800-red-cross) or email at support@redcrosstraining.org. Let us know if you or your instructors have further questions.

Teaching only Water Safety Presentations, Water Safety Today or Longfellow’s WHALE Tales does not meet the recertification requirements.
